Adam McKay has had quite the fascinating career as a filmmaker, beginning by directing digital shorts for Saturday Night Live, before helming numerous Will Ferrell comedies such as Anchorman, Talladega Nights and Step Brothers, and most recently earning a Best Director nomination for his fine work on The Big Short.

He's an extremely talented all-rounder, and even has experience in the superhero genre, having very nearly replaced Edgar Wright as director of Ant-Man and contributing to the movie's revised final script.

How Likely Is It?: Given Ant-Man's success, don't be surprised if Marvel comes knocking at his door in the near-future. He has a track record of delivering entertaining and financially successful films, and his work punching up the Ant-Man script only further puts him in good stead. 8/10
