14 Awesome Directors Who Need A Superhero Movie

13. Darren Aronofsky

Darren Aronofsky may not be the most immediate choice to direct a superhero film, but he's flirted with the idea several times, nearly directing an adaptation of Frank Miller's Batman: Year One, planning a scrapped R-rated Robocop reboot, and quitting The Wolverine shortly before production due to the travel requirements.

Aronofsky has proven himself a dab hand at small, character-driven drama (The Wrestler), more surreal fare (Black Swan) and even full-on, big-budget tentpoles (Noah), so he's certainly got a diverse enough skill-set to make a superhero film.

How Likely Is It?: It's hard not to feel like the boat has been missed here, and it's difficult to imagine him wanting to work in the MCU or DC Extended Universe, but perhaps an R-rated film for Fox? That's not outside the realm of possibility. 4/10
