14 Awesome Directors Who Need A Superhero Movie

12. Ava DuVernay

Ava DuVernay is one of the most high-profile female directors working in Hollywood, highly acclaimed for her direction of the Best Picture-nominated Selma, and she's currently hard at work on Disney's star-studded big-budget tentpole, A Wrinkle in Time.

Though she hasn't actually released a blockbuster to date, her evident directorial chops caused many to put her forward as a potential choice to replace Colin Trevorrow on Star Wars Episode IX (until J.J. Abrams won the gig, of course), and she was originally in contention to direct Black Panther before dropping out.

How Likely Is It?: DuVernay passed on Black Panther for much the same reason that Edgar Wright left Ant-Man, so while she probably won't be working in the MCU soon, it's easy to imagine her fielding offers for DC's Cyborg and other, more standalone comic book films.

Unless A Wrinkle in Time is an absolute dud, she'll probably end up making a comic book film of some kind in the near-future. 6/10
