The Plot: In a dystopic future Japan, a virus has ravaged the country, turning humans into "Engineers" who, when wounded, can sprout bizarre weapons from that wound. Cop and expert Engineer killer Ruka (Eihi Shiina) is meanwhile on the hunt for her father's killer, but when she becomes infected herself, things get a whole lot more challenging for her. Most WTF Moment: The arrival of "Alligator Girl", an Engineer whose nether-regions have been replaced with the mouth of an alligator, allowing her to chew up anyone in the immediate vicinity, which she does with a certain relish. Why It's Awesome: Shlock maestro Yoshihiro Nishimura throws everything at the wall here, and what the movie lacks in coherence, it more than compensates for with its wickedly imaginative gore effects and consistently hilarious efforts to one-up itself. His recent follow-ups, namely Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl, Mutant Girl Squad and Helldriver serve up a similar mix of nonsensical plotting and outrageous special effects.
