14 Awesome Movies To Watch This Summer (Which Aren't Blockbusters)
6. Sorry To Bother You
Release Date: July 6
The Plot: In an alternate reality version of Oakland, California, telemarketer Cassius Green (Lakeith Stanfield) discovers he can get ahead in life by adopting a "white man's voice"...and all hell subsequently breaks loose.
Why It's Going To Be Awesome: The directorial debut of rapper Boots Riley looks absolutely insane, and you should just check the trailer out for yourself. Well-reviewed since its Sundance bow, the surreal sci-fi fantasy comedy is said to be a pin-sharp satire about race and contemporary existence in general, with audacious visuals and a boundary-pushing sense of style.
In addition to the on-the-rise Stanfield, the cast includes Tessa Thompson, Armie Hammer, Danny Glover, Terry Crews, Steven Yeun, and as the "white voices" of the movie, David Cross, Patton Oswalt and Steve Buscemi.
Releasing the same day as Ant-Man and the Wasp, this should be just the palate cleanser any healthy film buff needs.
