14 Awesome Movies To Watch This Summer (Which Aren't Blockbusters)

1. White Boy Rick

True Detective Matthew McConaughey
HBO

Release Date: August 17

The Plot: The tale of Richard Wershe Jr. (Richie Merritt), who at the mere age of 14, became the youngest ever FBI informant in history during the 1980s.

Why It's Going To Be Awesome: It's surprising that a movie about White Boy Rick hasn't already been made, to be honest, considering how utterly fascinating his story is.

With rock solid director Yann Demange ('71) at the helm, not to mention a cast including Matthew McConaughey, Bel Powley, Bruce Dern, Piper Laurie, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rory Cochrane and Eddie Marsan, it's easy to be optimistic.

The movie was delayed from its original January release in order to facilitate re-shoots, but according to the studio, this was only to accentuate a movie that has already been testing in the 90s. Could Sony Pictures be sensing a sleeper hit on their hands here? Wait and see.
