4. The Nos Monster

Lucasfilm

Which Episode? Revenge Of The Sith

Where would it be in film? After Order 66, when Obi-Wan is in the Utapau caves.

What happens? Following the attack by Clone troopers, Obi-Wan has to face a more typically alien danger; he finds himself up against a Nos monster, a strange, semi-aquatic beast, and her young. Sneaking past, the monster ends up proving useful, attacking some droids sent to check the Jedi was dead. The scene was cut before its effects could be finished, featuring only in the novelisation, but existed long enough for there to be some finished creature designs.

Should it have been cut? One of the unwritten rules of Star Wars movies, along with "I've got a bad feeling about this" and an eye-rolling 1138 reference, is that one of the heroes must almost be killed by some strange alien creature; in the originals Luke takes on a dianoga, a wampa and a rancor, while in the prequels there's deadly fish and arena executors. Revenge Of The Sith could have continued the tradition with the Nos monster, but instead ends up being the film that breaks it.
