14 So-Called ‘Must-See’ Films In 2014 (That Might Actually Be Worth Watching)

6. Muppets Most Wanted

Release Date: 21st March (US), 28th March (UK) Why It€™s A Must See: The original was an unexpected gem. After James Bobin€™s The Muppets brought the gang of not-quite-mops, not-quite-puppets back to prominence with a blend of franchise faithfulness, general cliché subversion and, of course, some Oscar winning music, it€™s only natural we€™d eventually get a sequel. Muppets Most Wanted is that sequel, bringing back Bobin, along with songwriter Bret McKenzie and looks to be in-keeping with Jim Henderson's ethos. The real value in the Muppets is how they€™re never treated as if there€™s someone€™s hand up their arse, but as real actors in the real world. Like the first film before it, Muppets Most Wanted embraces this fully; the plot entails a European tour sidetracked by Kermit€™s evil doppelgänger, which is equally silly and un-puppetlike. Why You Should Worried: Jason Segel€™s gone. The Muppets worked thanks to one man. Jason Segel was a lifelong Henderson fan (he even worked a Dracula puppet subplot into Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and was instrumental in getting the whole film moving. With a history of not getting bogged down (it took a lot of cajoling to keep him on as Marshall for How I Met Your Mother), you can€™t blame Segel for leaving the project at conception, but I can€™t imagine Ricky Gervais bringing the same unfazed love. Bottom Line: What happens after you find the rainbow connection? One for the lovers and dreamers.
