14 So-Called ‘Must-See’ Films In 2014 (That Might Actually Be Worth Watching)

5. Interstellar

Release Date: 7th November Why It€™s A Must See: Christopher Nolan's directing. Few directors command as much respect as Christopher Nolan. Although The Avengers won the box office battle in 2012, to the general public it may as well have been directed by a nobody (Joss Whedon is only a touchstone in geek circles, evidenced by the plop of Much Ado). Nolan strikes that unimaginable balance between quality filmmaking and wide appeal, to the point where his name attached to a movie can be its biggest draw. That is true of Interstellar. The story (something to do with wormholes and deep space) has been kept understandably under wraps and the trailer did little to help explain it. Yet it sits high on this list thanks to the director and his typically stellar cast, this time including Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matthew McConaughey and, of course, Michael Caine. One Reason To Be Worried: We could all get too hyped up. Although there€™s some die-hard Bat-fans or extreme cine-hipsters who would disagree, Nolan hasn€™t objectively made any terrible films. Most of the people who dislike his movies tend to do it out of failed expectations, either from too much hype pre-release or hyperbolic word of mouth. I€™ll admit this is all a little fanboyish, but with what little has been released over-hype is the only real worry thus far with Interstellar. Bottom Line: Now is not the time for hype. That comes later.
