14 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The DCEU
3. Recasting Will Happen Before We Know It
One of the big worries about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that the wheels will begin to come off the enterprise once the likes of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans decide they want out, resulting in these iconic characters being recast, potentially risking billions of dollars if audiences don't take to the new interpretations.
If Marvel are going to struggle with it despite their already enormous success, just imagine how tough it's going to be for the DCEU. Henry Cavill has already been playing Superman for over 3 years in two movies, and can one really imagine him continuing to play the character another decade from now?
Similarly, will Ben Affleck really want to play Batman into his mid-fifties? While the roadmap for the next five years seems clearly defined, after that the DCEU may struggle to keep a hold of talent who may only be contracted for a total of three or four movies.
Recasting is probably the worst thing that could happen, especially in Affleck's case, and while the DCEU is basically still in its infancy, it's an absolute certainty that executives will have already begun pondering how to deal with the inevitable recasting problem all while still struggling to garner critical acclaim and box office dynamite. Yikes.
