14 Directors Who Desperately Need A Hit Movie
7. Josh Trank
There's probably no better recent instance of a talented filmmaker self-immolating than Josh Trank, who blew critics and audiences away with 2012's found footage superhero flick Chronicle, but went on to derail his career with the infamous dud that was 2015's Fantastic Four.
Not only was the film terrible, but Trank's erratic and possibly drug-fueled on-set behaviour was extensively detailed online, and he burned even more bridges by bashing the final movie on Twitter, and deriding Fox's meddling in the end product.
Worst of all, this led to him eventually being dropped as the planned director of an unnamed standalone Star Wars movie.
Will It Happen?: Trank has written an Al Capone biopic, Fonzo, which he plans to shoot for a 2018 release with Tom Hardy starring, so if he can restore his reputation with a lower-budget project like this, he'll be able to slowly climb his way back up to making larger-scale features, assuming that's what he wants.
As long as his meltdown stays in the past, he'll probably be fine. Like Blomkamp, he's very young, so he has a ton of time to make things right.
