14 Directors Who Desperately Need A Hit Movie
6. Jason Reitman
After wowing critics and audiences alike with the one-two-three punch of Thank You for Smoking, Juno and Up in the Air (which scored him a combined four Oscar nominations), the latter half of Jason Reitman's career hasn't been quite so fruitful.
The Charlize Theron-starring Young Adult was a critical hit but did mediocre business, while Labour Day and Men, Women and Children were neither critical nor commercial successes, the latter only barely grossing 10% of its budget at the worldwide box office. Ouch.
It's quite a fall for a filmmaker who, back in 2009, scored Oscar nods for writing, directing and producing Up in the Air.
Will It Happen?: Reitman isn't even 40 yet and he's got a much-loved filmmaker father, both of which work heavily in his favour. Plus, his upcoming film Tully, which reunites him with writer Diablo Cody and Charlize Theron, has been heavily buzzed-about and kept under wraps ever since shooting began. He'll be fine (probably).
