13. Battle Royale

Grim Highlight: Niida getting stabbed in the groin Battle Royale, as you probably know, is a film with a similar premise to a certain young adult franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence about youths fighting to the death. It's a gore-filled portrayal of a dystopian world in which survival is based on gamesmanship and murder. Most of the movie is difficult to watch due to its subject matter, but the fight scene that is particularly excruciating happens between the capable female Takako Chigusa and the significantly less scary (and more pervy) male Kazushi Niida. After Niida just misses Chigusa with an arrow, Chigusa chases Niida with a knife. Chigusa quickly catches up to Niida and stabs him. Then, after a quick jockeying for position between the forced competitors, Chigusa proceeds to sit on top of Niida and stab him in the groin with the knife. Despite the fact that we are more aligned with Chigusa at this point in the film (the morally corrupted badass always trumps the gross and corrupt coward), as any male can testify there is a specific reaction to attacks to that particular region. Chigusa proceeds to kill Niida by repeatedly stabbing him in the chest in one of the bloodier sequences of the film.
