12. Kill Bill, Vol. 1

Grim Moment: A disarming move unleashes a flurry of blood This scene is fairly obvious, but it had to be included in the list. The Bride fights her way through the Crazy 88 in what is probably Tarantino's bloodiest sequence (which is saying something). Even though the Crazy 88 don't actually constitute 88 people, there is still a lot of gushing blood to be found at the end of the Bride's blade. After disposing Gogo with a nail to the head, the Bride proceeds to sever multiple limbs (which spew out copious amounts of blood) and kills several of Oren Ishii's gang members. This scene definitely falls more onto the cartoon violence side of the scale which admittedly has the potential to lessen the impact of its gore (there's even a Wilhelm's Scream thrown into the scene for good measure), but the sheer amount of brutal violence certainly turned off particular moviegoers. The Bride brutally kills around a dozen people in this scene, and while we are definitely in awe of her talents, she is literally soaked in blood by the time it is over. While a substantial portion of the group are allowed to flee, The Bride tells them that they must leave their limbs in order to leave alive. Trophies are won, lunches were potentially lost.
