Why It's Disappointing: Ant-Man was obviously an entertaining entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it just didn't live up to its huge potential. Though Edgar Wright's presence can still be felt in a number of individual scenes, there's no doubt that the movie missed out big time by replacing him, as the result is another strangely generic Marvel movie. From the ridiculous product placement to the boring, TV-style cinematography, limp family subplot and dull villain, Ant-Man succeeds more on the strength of its super-powered set-pieces than on the personality of its protagonist, which sadly often feels lost amid Marvel's desire to make a movie that's all things to all people. How To Improve It: Simply, bring Edgar Wright back and don't let a hack-for-hire near it. Wright's film probably would've downplayed the MCU references while retaining the soul and wit that characterises each of the writer-director's films to date. Also, get Michael Douglas in a freaking Ant-Man suit, at least for a flashback, jeez.
