14 Movie Posters And DVD Covers That Blatantly Lied To You
2. Godzilla Vs. Megalon
If you were a Godzilla fan living outside of Japan, you may have been excited to see this poster for Godzilla vs. Megalon, which shows Godzilla fighting the titular monster on top of the Twin Towers. Woah, Godzilla is going to come to New York in this movie? That’s certainly an interesting change.
Nope. The cover scene never happens, and exactly zero seconds of the film actually take place in New York. Hell, none of it even takes place in the United States.
So what’s the deal with this cover? Well, it was probably an attempt to cash in on the success of the 1976 remake of King Kong, which had a very similar poster where King Kong is seen on the top of the World Trade Center. At least that movie lives up to the promise, though.
Besides, the poster doesn’t even make any sense. How is Godzilla standing on top of the World Trade Center like that? He’s supposed to be tall enough to topple buildings - 164 feet according to the original film - but now he's standing on one?
Maybe in this fictional poster universe, someone shrunk Godzilla down in size right before this scene?
