14 Movies You Didn't Realise Stupidly Broke Their Own Rules

3. Tony Stark Can't Ever Remove That Shrapnel Or He'll Die - Iron Man

The Rule

The reason Tony Stark has that big shiny arc reactor in his chest throughout the Iron Man trilogy and the Avengers movie is that it provides power to the electromagnet in his chest that is stopping shards of deadly metal entering his heart and killing him.

He cannot remove it, otherwise he would have done so when one poisonous element in it - Palladium - was about to kill him in Iron Man 2, presumably.

But Wait...

At the end of Iron Man 3, when he's destroyed all of his suits, and saved the world from all the angry exploding army vets, Tony gets his heart fixed as if it's just a regular procedure. He doesn't die either.

So, he just needed the right surgeon apparently, and for some reason hadn't bothered himself to actually look for that person.
