The Rumour

Ben Affleck's decision to walk away from the director's job for The Batman might only be the start of it. According to Mark Hughes at Forbes and Collider's John Campea have both said in the wake of that story that "sources" have told them that he wants out completely. And even if he does play Batman in The Batman for Matt Reeves, it will be the last time he appears as the character.

Response

Unfortunately, the same sources claim they were told in advance that Affleck wanted to leave the director's chair of The Batman before he did, which is somewhat worrying.

There can't be many DCEU fans who would even begrudge Affleck his desire, if this is true: he's been through a punishing time, professionally and personally, and his expressed desire for more creative freedom in his own projects has got to be difficult with such a tight multi-picture schedule as Warner Bros demand for the DCEU.

Sure, we'd be losing a good Bruce Wayne and a great Batman, but as long as Warner Bros replace him well (with one of these candidates), it wouldn't be as much of a blow as losing him as director.
