14 Shocking Facts From The Sony Leak

12. The Steve Jobs Biopic Debacle

The production on the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic has been a rocky one to say the least. David Fincher was originally attached to direct before Danny Boyle took over, with Michael Fassbender eventually replacing Christian Bale in the lead role, and Sony have since lost the rights, which have gone to Universal. The leaks shone an unflattering light on the bureaucratic tug-of-war between Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin, in which Pascal revealed that Angelina Jolie was upset about Fincher taking on Jobs, because she wanted him to direct her in a Cleopatra remake. Rudin, seeing no value in an Angie-starring Cleopatra (referring to it as a "$180m ego bath"), put down the actress as a "minimally talented spoiled brat" who was making progress on Jobs needlessly more difficult. A tense war of words began between Pascal and Rudin, in which the producer's famously fiery temper came to the boil, and Pascal replied with the widely-mocked response, "Why are u punishing me?" Other e-mails include Jobs producer Mark Gordon and Pascal criticising Leonardo DiCaprio for dropping out of Jobs, and a general concern about Fassbender's lack of star power in the role.
