14 Stupid Blunders That Ruined Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

10. Finn

Star Wars Rise Of Skywalker
Lucasfilm

Finn has to be the greatest tragedy of the Star Wars sequels.

He was such a compelling character in The Force Awakens. A stormtrooper who decides not to live this way of life forced upon him, he helps Poe Dameron escape the First Order ship, and meets Rey on Jakku. He and Rey made a great pairing, and the friendship they had was compelling.

In the final battle of that film, he stands up to his former boss, Kylo Ren, fighting him with Luke's lightsaber (although Kylo paralyzed him and Rey was the one who finished the fight).

There was so much potential with this character... and they wasted it.

The Last Jedi relegated him to a terrible subplot with Rose, and gave him an underwhelming duel with Captain Phasma. He almost sacrifices himself to destroying a First Order battering ram cannon, which would have actually been a great end for his arc, but Rose pointlessly saves him (and they share a kiss which was pointless too).

The Rise of Skywalker doesn't give Finn much to do either. Aside from meeting fellow former stormtroopers, there's no further character development for him. He's pretty much just Rey's sidekick now (and totally in love with her, but won't say it). He was set up as being an important central character just as much as Rey, but each subsequent film has been a step backwards for him.
