14 Terrible Looking 2017 Movies That Will Shockingly Make A Profit

13. CHiPs

Chips Michael Pena Dex Shepard

Release Date: March 24

Why It Looks Terrible: This big-screen adaptation of the classic Erik Estrada-starring TV show is clearly trying to copy the formula that made the recent Jump Street movies so successful, by taking a goofy old TV series and giving it a glossy, R-rated makeover.

Sadly it doesn't look funny at all, dining out on lame gay panic jokes while seemingly failing to make the most of the appealing pairing of Michael Peña and Dax Shepard (the latter of whom also wrote and directed the movie).

Why It'll Still Make A Profit: CHiPS only cost $25 million, and though it does face considerable box office competition with Power Rangers, Life and Beauty and the Beast's continued onslaught, it will probably still be moderately successful by working as counter-programming against the PG-13 Rangers and Beast in particular.

It has an incredibly low bar to clear budget-wise, so even if it only recoups its cost at the box office, it'll do fine with VOD and home video factored in, because this looks like a "Netflix on a lazy Sunday" kinda movie if there's ever been one.
