I Know What You Did Last Summer took audiences by storm in late 1997, obliterating the global box office and becoming one of the late-90s' most iconic horror flicks, even if critics weren't that hot on it.

This inevitably led to a sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, churned out barely a year later to solid-but-diminished financial returns and a thorough critical panning. After that, the series basically died, but that didn't stop a second sequel, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, going direct-to-video in 2006 (surprise, it sucked).

With the original being such a huge hit, a remake was inevitable, and acclaimed horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil) will be directing and co-writing the project.

Flanagan will reportedly steer away from the 1997 movie and hew closer to Lois Duncan's 1973 novel, which could very well make this an improvement over the rather schlocky B-movie original.
