Moderately successful with audiences but critically panned, 1997's adaptation of the classic superhero Spawn was a fascinating mess, a bombastic, R-rated trainwreck that at least benefited from impressive visuals and a bonkers John Leguizamo performance as The Violator.

Talk of a sequel, reboot and straight-up remake have all been in the works for years, but just last month, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane announced that he was teaming with the ultra-successful Blumhouse Productions to write and direct a remake.

While McFarlane making his directorial debut on such a risky project is a little concerning, Blumhouse's track record speaks for itself, and let's be honest, it'd have to screw things up pretty badly to be sloppier than the original film.
