Because revisiting a classic movie 54 years after the fact rarely sounds like a good idea, and even if the movie ends up being decent, it's going to be scrutinised to death simply for being an unnecessary sequel to a beloved pillar of cinema.

Though the casting of Emily Blunt in the title role is undeniably on-point and Lin-Manuel Miranda playing opposite her is certainly promising, this could be a case of expectations and legacy conspiring to sink the film from the outset.

We as viewers went five decades without another Mary Poppins movie just fine, and so we could easily do without this one.

Could It Be Any Good?: Blunt and Miranda give some hope, even if director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into the Woods) is incredibly hit-and-miss.

It probably won't be terrible, but it could easily end up as a mediocre follow-up that, in the eyes of some, "tarnishes" the original.
