Pirates Of The Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales
Disney

Release Date: May 26, 2017

The original Pirates of the Caribbean was such a delightful breath of fresh air, thanks largely to Johnny Depp's Oscar-nominated performance as the iconic Jack Sparrow.

Depp is pretty much the sole reason for this franchise's success, yet even his shtick has felt pretty tired in the last two movies, which feature nonsensical plots intended solely to shoehorn some effects-heavy action sequences and justify the ticket price.

In fairness, the movies have consistently made truckloads of cash, so there's clearly an audience for them, but are there really many desperately crying out for a fifth one? Hasn't all the ground already been covered? Would anyone be devastated if Disney just left it at four films?

Could It Be Any Good?: Though it's promising that Kon-Tiki directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg are taking the reins, expecting anything more than a good-looking, by-the-numbers adventure flick would be foolish.

Plus, it's possible that Johnny Depp's recent PR troubles could hurt the movie's box office: just look at what's happened to Alice Through the Looking Glass.
