14 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome

8. Leatherface

Leatherface 2017
Lionsgate

Release Date: October 20

Why It Should Suck: Even hardcore fans of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise will admit that another prequel is just plain excessive at this point, especially as Leatherface is a much scarier force when you don't know his backstory.

Also, it's going straight-to-VOD, which is a pretty bad sign for an entry into a horror franchise that's typically been pretty successful at the box office. Oh, and it's being written by someone who was uncredited on London Has Fallen. Yeesh.

Why It Might Be Awesome: Leatherface is being helmed by the extremely skilled Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside, Livid, Among the Living), which provides hope it'll at least be suitably grisly and screwed-up.

Also, the talented Lili Taylor and Stephen Dorff lead the cast, and the trailer actually didn't look that bad, which is encouraging. Plus, a ton of great horror movies go direct-to-video now, so it's not really the black mark that it once was.
