12. The Jesus Rolls

Who
doesn’t love The Big Lebowski?
As divisively bleak and cold as the Coen Brothers’ mannered style can be for some audiences, the Dude’s abiding onscreen appearance in 1998’s shaggy dog comedy noir remains their most fondly recalled effort, a surreal comedy mystery which mixes the two genres to incredible effect and inspired an entire subgenre of stoner detective fiction which is still going strong decades later (big ups to the underrated Inherent Vice).
So why on earth did anyone feel the need to shoot this unfunny, meandering road movie spin-off without their involvement?
Following John Turtorro’s minor figure Jesus, a throwaway character who we’re fairly certain was a paedophile in the original film and is a toned-down wayward criminal in this pointless flick, the movie remakes a mean-spirited French comedy from the seventies as it follows the Jesus and the amoral exploits of his pals across America—not that you’ll care to get that far into this ill-considered dud.
