14 Worst Movies Of 2020 (So Far)
11. Fantasy Island
Horror heroes Blumhouse may have brought us Jason Peele’s pair of incredible social satire/ sci-fi horror hybrids, but it’s worth remembering that the acclaimed genre production company has another side—a shadow self. Tethered to its critically adored output, if you will.
It’s this lesser Blumhouse which is responsible for the likes of 2018’s woeful Truth or Dare and this (also Pretty Little Liar’s Lucy Hale-staring) effort, an absurdly bad screw up which fuses action, fantasy, sci-fi, comedy, and horror to embarrassing effect.
Fantasy Island follows a group of young people brought to the titular holodeck-style island wherein their wildest dreams come true—at a price. Dull as dishwater and almost as ugly, this flop is more evidence that the desperation to mine existing intellectual property over investing in new ideas will yield nothing more promising than this inexplicable PG-13 horror version of a seventies TV hit in the future.
Looking forward to the inevitable upcoming horror version of The Brady Bunch, though.
