4. Meryl Streep Dies - Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

The marketing for this belated musical sequel seemed to hint at the prospect of Meryl Streep's Donna being dead, but as the trailers seemed to stop short of fully confirming it, some fans began to suspect they were being set-up for a big surprise.

But no, they weren't. Donna's actually dead and this is revealed in the opening moments of the movie.

In fact, Streep only appears for a couple of minutes at the tail-end of the film, showing up as a vision before her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) and joining the full cast for a singalong of "Super Trouper" over the end credits.

Considering how fun Streep was in the first movie and the obvious star power she brings to the table, it was pretty bizarre to see her so violently relegated to a cameo role.

Whether it was at Streep's request or not is unknown, but unambiguously writing her out was a pretty bold and weird move.
