15 Acclaimed Recent Movies That Are (Probably) Doomed To Receive A Backlash

12. Ant-Man And The Wasp/Spider-Man: Far From Home

These two MCU sequels, released roughly a year apart, are combined here since they're examples of the same thing. They're both safe, forgettable and entirely inessential sequels that feel like overly light breathers following the heaviness of the preceding Avengers film on each occasion (Infinity War preceded Ant-Man and the Wasp and Endgame preceded Spider-Man: Far from Home).

Ant-Man and the Wasp is an intensely low-effort, by-the-numbers affair while Spider-Man: Far from Home suffered from flat direction, a safe script and the fact that no-one ever seemed to be in genuine danger.

Both of these are among the worst MCU films and it's frankly inexplicable that they were so well-received to begin with. Given how unmemorable they truly are (Ant-Man and the Wasp in particular - Spider-Man: Far from Home is a little better) and since the best part of both movies is the mid-credits scene, they are unlikely to endure well in the future at all.
