15 Action Films From The 1980s You Must Watch
11. RoboCop - 1988
If you want a film that encapsulates what the 1980s were all about, then there are few that do it better than RoboCop. Dystopian depictions of the future, dated tongue-in-cheek humour and tons of over the top violence and gore - RoboCop has got it all.
With Detroit on the verge of collapse due to overwhelming crime and financial ruin, a mega corporation agrees to run the police department in exchange for the rights to rebuild the city into a technological utopia. When officer Alex Murphy is killed by a notorious gang, the corporation claims his body and converts him into RoboCop - a cybernetically enhanced law enforcer.
RoboCop’s campaign against crime is a brutally efficient one, as he blasts his way through multiple gangs until he stumbles upon a larger organisation and must find out who is really controlling the violence in Detroit. At the same time, he slowly regains his memories and finds the gang members responsible for his death and their charismatic leader Clarence Boddicker.
RoboCop is a classic 1980s action flick that is still relevant and entertaining by today's standards.
