15 Action Films From The 1980s You Must Watch
8. Commando - 1985
It was not long after killing hordes of enemies in Conan The Barbarian that we got to see Schwarzenegger in another action film where he is responsible for another high body count. Commando saw Arnold starring as Colonel John Matrix, a former special forces operative whose daughter gets kidnapped by a former member of his old unit.
He is then told by a South American warlord named Arius that he will only let his daughter go if he assassinates a politician for him. Matrix reluctantly agrees, but quickly loses Arius’ men and gets to work in finding out where his daughter is being held.
With the help of an off-duty flight attendant, Matrix hunts down Arius’ men and finally discovers his daughter is being held on his secret island hideout, where the film's explosive climax takes place.
Commando has all the hallmarks of a satisfying action film - a straightforward plot, cheesy one liners, bad guys getting killed in gloriously creative fashion and a main protagonist who single handedly blasts his way through an entire army of thugs in order to kick the main bad guy's ass, save the day and fly off into the sunset after a job well done.
