Whenever you're looking at the casting of a twenty-something in a major blockbuster movie you can bet Garrett Hedlund narrowly missed out. He's a perfectly competent actor (see Inside Llewyn Davis), but doesn't have either enough star power to win big roles, nor uniqueness to get something smaller. Maybe the collective "ooh, but meh" reaction to TRON: Legacy has hurt its star. Although even if it has, with Hunger Games: Catching Fire, for which Hedlund was approached to play Finnick, it was actually the actor himself who pulled himself out of the running. Francis Lawrence and co. wanted him to be involved, but the actor's schedule meant there was no way to fit in the massive shooting schedule.
