Blonde and British... What could possibly have gone wrong? What Happened? The Brit was apparently approached by Bret Ratner for his take on Superman: Flyby (or Batman Vs Superman, depending on who you choose to believe), but ultimately turned the role down when he realised the contract would have covered multiple Superman movies. He needn't have worried. AICN confirmed that Law had the role for Batman Vs Superman but that contract talks stumbled because the actor wanted to commit to individual sequels on a case by case basis, based upon the quality of their respective scripts. A not unreasonable request, given what had happened with the original Superman franchise. Instead of bending to the will of their chosen star, Warner Bros. unthinkably swatted away his request and instead went with Josh Hartnett, much to Harry Knowles and co's dismay. Would He Have Worked? It's hard to say - of all of the actors on this list, Jude Law is probably the most inappropriate choice simply because the very idea of him playing Superman is completely obtuse. There's nothing in his career that suggests he would ever have succeeded in the role, and he doesn't exactly look the part either. You can at least partly understand the desire to hang a tent-pole release on him, but so far, that hasn't really proved all that profitable.
