15 Actors You Didn't Know Almost Played Superman

14. Ashton Kutcher

As well as being strongly linked to the role of Batman before Christian Bale blew Christopher Nolan out of the water with his audition for Batman Begins, the Two And A Half Men star could also have played the other most famous JLA member. What Happened? Back when Brett Ratner was attached to direct JJ Abrams' Superman: Flyby, Kutcher was apparently offered the lead role before it was ultimately offered to Josh Hartnett. Unthinkably, Kutcher turned it down, apparently citing scheduling conflicts with That 70s Show, and proving that beggars actually can be choosers. Despite giving what was called a "very, very good" audition for Ratner, Kutcher also confessed that he was put off by the Superman curse:
"I think there€™s a bit of a curse behind that role €“ the things that have happened to people. Also, I think once you€™ve played that role then you€™re just forever known as Superman. It€™s kind of hard to play other things. I have a lot of other characters I€™d rather play."
He might have been right to swerve the role, but the second part of his reasoning was a bit rich. Would He Have Worked? Well, he can't act, but that wasn't really a requirement for Brandon Routh in Superman Lives either, so possibly. Unfortunately for Kutcher, it's too difficult to detach him from his stoner/surfer roles in That 70s Show and Dude Where's My Car, and that could only have hurt Supes.
