14. Brenton Thwaites
Former Home And Away star Thwaites already appeared in the third highest grossing film of 2014, but is hardly a household name or a face that many are likely to recognise. Not yet anyway. His role as the prince in Maleficent was never going to be a significant one given the film's focus on another relationship entirely, but he gave a reasonable showing in a role that was already a stepping stone to bigger things. Brash crime thriller Son Of A Gun, released in the US and UK this month, sees the Aussie star return to his homeland. Already released in Australia, the film, which sees Thwaites in the lead role as a young prison inmate taken under the wing of Ewan McGregor's hardened criminal, has already garnered strongly positive reviews. Currently filming in the Helen Hunt written and directed drama Ride, next up for Thwaites is the small matter of headlining $150 million epic fantasy Gods Of Egypt from The Crow and Dark City director Alex Proyas. Gods of Egypt is now set for an early 2016 release, so it may make more sense to see Thwaites as the breakout star of next year (or even the year after with his role in the fifth Pirates Of The Caribbean already locked in), but 2015 could be the time that he begins to make waves.
