15 Actors Who Stupidly Turned Down Billion Dollar Movies
6. Sean Connery - The Lord Of The Rings
In one of the most heavily publicised film snubs ever, the now-retired Sean Connery turned down the role of Gandalf in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, and lost out on an eye-watering $450million dollars in the process.
Despite being offered $6 million per film and 15% of the box office profits, Connery said he “never understood the script”:
“I read the book. I read the script. I saw the movie. I still don’t understand it. Ian McKellen, I believe, is marvellous in it.”
As marvellous as $450m in the bank, though?
What He Made Instead
Finding Forrester, which wasn't terrible but which absolutely wasn't enough of a sweetener to make up for that lost pay day.
