At its base, Pretty Woman is a Cinderella tale for the modern ages that sees Gere rescue sex worker Julia Roberts from the streets for a week in (mostly) true Prince Charming fashion.

But Gere appears to struggle swallowing such a story, and the 90s megastar reduced likely his biggest career success to a fantastical piece of fluff when speaking to Woman’s Day in 2012 (h/t Daily Mail):

“People ask me about that movie but I've forgotten it. That was a silly romantic comedy.

“It made those guys seem dashing, which was wrong. Thankfully, today, we are all more sceptical of those guys.”
