12. Nicole Kidman - Panic Room

While Nicole Kidman was working on Moulin Rouge!, she sustained a severe knee injury. Even though she had filmed several scenes on her next film, Panic Room, Kidman was unable to perform any physicality and so was substituted for Jodie Foster. However, you can hear Kidman's voice on the answering machine when Stephen's girlfriend leaves a message.

Since Kidman was replaced early in production, you'd assume this wasn't a major inconvenience. But because Foster was pregnant at the time, director David Fincher had to drastically change shots and her wardrobe in order to hide her baby belly.

That wasn't the only snafu, though. The set was designed for Kidman, who stands 5' 11". Because Jodie Foster is eight inches shorter, the lasers in the panic room were at Foster's eye level, which caused the actress to be momentarily blinded almost every time she entered or exited the room. If Foster had been cast from the beginning, a lot of these problems could've been avoided.
