15 Alternative Superhero And Comic Book Movies You Must See
6. Turbo Kid (2015)
Turbo Kid is a wonderful throwback to the visceral action movies of the '80s and '90s. Set in a post-apocalyptic future wasteland ruled by an anarchic and violent gang, we meet 'The Kid' as he goes about his daily life, scavenging to survive.
After his quirky new friend, Apple is captured, 'The Kid' discovers the corpse of his comic book hero 'Turbo Rider' and dons the Turbo suit before setting off on a rescue mission.
The movie is a loving tribute to the sci-fi gorefests of Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers) and the ruined, unforgiving future of the Mad Max franchise. The world is wonderfully realised, full of bizarre characters and villains and the use of bicycles to traverse 'The Wasteland' is just on the right side of parody.
The icing on the cake is the ludicrously cartoonish gore, gruesomely executed using practical effects and Michael Ironside's performance as an over the top villain, is not to be missed.
A modern cult classic with a thumping synth-wave soundtrack.
