7. The Crow (1994)

Eric Draven and his girlfriend are brutally murdered on the eve of their wedding day by a group of thugs. On the one year anniversary of his death, Eric is resurrected by a supernatural power and, after realising that he's practically invulnerable to harm, sets about avenging the death of his beloved Shelly.

The Crow is exceptionally dark yet still utterly beautiful to look at and the gothic but modern visual style draws you deep into a terrifying world and a disturbing revenge story wrought from an act of extreme violence.

We all know the story of actor Brandon Lee, fatally shot on set during production, but The Crow deserves to be remembered not merely as a tragic oddity, but as a stunning, visually arresting spectacle with a truly transcendental performance from its leading man.

If you haven't yet seen The Crow, 2019, the 25th Anniversary of its theatrical release is as good a time as any.
