Status: Though the project seemed to be picking up significant traction over the last few years, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's departure as producer and possibly director and star has left its future unknown.
Why It's Going To Development Hell: This adaptation of Neil Gaiman's classic comic book has been in development hell before, considering how attempts to get it made have persisted from the late 1990s onwards.
2013 saw the film resurrected with various writers coming onto and going away from the project ever since. Gordon-Levitt brought some serious star power to the mix, causing many to believe it would actually get made, but now he's bailed, leaving fans with no idea when a replacement might get picked.
Considering how many years it took to get a single actor signed on, it's safe to say that this one could very well slide back to the drawing board, which is a damn shame given the insane potential this property has.
