Status: Widely touted as one of the most promising video game-to-movie transitions, Uncharted quickly caught the eye of Hollywood after the original game hit stores in 2007, but almost a decade later, we're still waiting.

Why It's Going To Development Hell: The film has gone through a ton of filmmakers: David O. Russell of all people was attached in 2010 before quitting the next year, then Neil Burger (Limitless, Divergent) who bailed in 2012, and finally Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), who left late last year.

In addition, the movie has rinsed a fleet of writing teams (including an offer to Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, which they repeatedly turned down) and a host of A-list actors (Russell's version starred Mark Wahlberg, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, while Chris Pratt was later approached to play Nathan Drake).

For a game that's so inherently cinematic, it's surprising how much of a problem project this has been, though perhaps that's a sign of how huge a cash cow an Uncharted movie series could be, and how cautious Columbia Pictures are not to screw it up.
