15 Announced Movies That Are Destined For Development Hell

2. Any Avatar Sequel

Status So Far: As soon as Avatar steamrolled the global box office to become the highest-grossing film of all time, James Cameron talked up the idea of multiple sequels, eventually settling on three more movies which he hopes to release from December 2017 to 2019, having shot them back-to-back. Why It's Destined For Development Hell: Because James Cameron takes an insanely long time to make a single movie, though to his credit, he delivers pretty much every time. That said, the director has pushed back production on these three movies so many times that it would be a genuine surprise if he were even able to squeeze one sequel out. Three movies back-to-back sounds like something he wouldn't be able to easily cope with (given his meticulous, deliberate production style), so it wouldn't be a surprise if this plan changed completely. Cruel though it might sound, if Cameron takes 5-10 years to deliver a single movie, will he even be alive long enough to get Avatar 3 and 4 made? And if Cameron isn't around anymore, who would want to fill his huge shoes?
