15 Announced Movies That Are Destined For Development Hell
9. Prometheus 2
Status So Far: Though Prometheus opened to mixed notices from hardcore Alien fans, it was a significant box office success and did well with critics also, so sequel discussions began quickly. The script is currently being worked on and Scott began scouting locations in Australia last summer, though little more than that is known, and the original projected March 2016 release date has obviously slipped away. Why It's Destined For Development Hell: It's surprising that it's taken this long to get another movie going given how much Prometheus was talked about, both good and bad, following its release. One suspects that given the rather harsh criticism from Alien fans about various aspects of the script, Scott is a little gunshy about rushing into things, and so will be taking his time now. In addition, Scott will be 78 years old this year, and though the speed of his current output impressively defies his age (he's made 8 features in the last decade), he may start to slow down as he edges closer to 80. Given the cliffhanger of Prometheus, it makes sense to get this one out fast, and given that it likely won't be out until 2017/2018 at the earliest, audiences might care a lot less if Neil Blomkamp's Alien 5 hits cinemas before it.
