15 Announced Movies That Are Destined For Development Hell
10. The Irishman
Status So Far: Martin Scorsese's mob drama about Frank "The Irishman" Sheehan, who may have been involved with the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Jimmy Hoffa, has been discussed frequently over the last few years, especially as it will reunite the director with Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro, and finally see him collaborate with Al Pacino. The script is finished and the cast are game, but it all depends on Scorsese himself, who typically has about a dozen possible projects lined up at any one moment. Why It's Destined For Development Hell: The director is busy until the end of the year working on his new drama Silence, and there's also his Frank Sinatra biopic, not to mention a ton of documentary films and a Mike Tyson biopic. It's fair to say that The Irishman should probably be a priority given the ages of everyone involved (Pacino is 74, Scorsese and Pesci are 72, De Niro is 71), as there's no guarantee this dream cast would be around for it in another decade or so. Hopefully the fact that any film fan worth their salt is dying to see this film will be enough for the director to focus his attention on it, but time will tell.
