Status So Far: Director Richard Donner has tried to get this sequel made for years, but Warner Bros. simply haven't shown much of an interest in it. Donner remains confident that it will be made with as much of the original cast as possible. Why It's Destined For Development Hell: Scripting seems to have been a big issue here for a while: a bunch of young writers have taken a crack at it over the last five years, none of who have produced satisfactory results for Donner. Aside from the fact it's been 30 years and The Goonies doesn't have a ton of mainstream appeal anymore (not to mention the original movie was a relatively minor hit), getting the cast back together is a logistical nightmare, and Donner is coming up to 85 years old. Any Goonies fan would love to see it, but it'd be a huge shock if this one didn't end up in development hell...if it isn't already there, mind.
