15 Awesome Horror Movies With Lower Critical Scores Than They Deserve
4. Pulse
Rotten Tomatoes: 74% (Average Score: 6.84/10)
Metacritic: 70
Obviously, the scores for this J-Horror film are better than most on this list but given just how good Pulse is, you'd expect them to be higher and there are a Lot of other 21st century horror films which aren't as good as this yet have ratings which are in the 80s or 90s on both sites. Also, the average score on RT is rather middling.
Pulse is a deeply disturbing, atmospheric and haunting supernatural thriller that is one of the most depressing, nihilistic and unsettling horror movies you'll ever watch and a noughties horror classic. Buoyed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa's flawless directing, some great slow-burn scares and an unforgettably powerful story, this truly is one hell of a film.
It's difficult to work out why many critics didn't go for this one more. It is very slow-paced but so are many brilliant modern horror films and it certainly delivers some great pay-offs anyhow.
Additionally, it's got an unfairly low IMDb score of just 6.5. Pulse is just one of those films where the critical scores really didn't give it the credit it deserves.
