15 Awesome Horror Movies With Lower Critical Scores Than They Deserve
5. Suspiria (2018)
Rotten Tomatoes: 65% (Average Score: 6.75/10)
Metacritic: 64
This remake of the 1977 Giallo horror classic Suspiria is an astonishing work. The directing is unreal, the performances are wonderfully enigmatic, the dance sequences are insane, the story is fascinating... it's a remake which doesn't just go much further than the original, but possibly improves on it.
Unfortunately, Suspiria (2018) was a polarising film which some loved while others dismissed it as pretentious and self-indulgent. The film's divided critical reception feels very odd for two main reasons.
Firstly, there is a lot of great stuff is Suspiria that is hard to ignore and secondly, if many other art-house films which are far more pretentious and less accessible - such as The Tree of Life or, worse still, Synecdoche New York - can be critically acclaimed than why wasn't this one?
Hopefully this one will become a cult classic further down the line. It truly deserves it.
