15 Awesome Movies To Watch This Summer (Which Aren't Blockbusters)
15. Child 44
Release Date: April 17 The Plot: During Stalin's era in the Soviet Union, MGB Agent Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy) is charged with hunting down an illusive child murderer in this adaptation of Tom Rob Smith's 2008 novel of the same name. Why It's Going To Be Awesome: For starters, Smith's book was released to tremendous acclaim and even long-listed for the prestigious Man Booker Prize, but it's the cast that really makes this one promising. Joining Hardy is Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman, Vincent Cassel, Paddy Considine, Jason Clarke and Charles Dance, while the film is being directed by Daniel Espinoza, best known for Swedish smash hit Easy Money and his first U.S. thriller, Safe House. Sure, it's slightly disconcerting that Lionsgate has kept the movie under wraps for so long (it began filming almost 2 years ago and hasn't played a single film festival), but with this much potential, it'd have to screw up something fierce to be anything less than electric.
